Business Problem
A major U.S. wireless carrier, having launched the first wireless 4G service in the United States, was facing reporting and operational measurement problems with its Radio Access Network(RAN) which had been built in the MS Suite (legacy system). With its growing success, the company was burdened with an overwhelming data volume that had reached petabytes in size.
Outcome
The solution provided a comprehensive overview of the entire network, featuring interactive map-based dashboards, customized KPIs, and user-based ad hoc reporting capabilities. It enabled RAN engineers to quickly access information, allowing them to address issues more rapidly.
Challenges
- The project faced several challenges, including dealing with different data formats from various OEMs.
- High volumes and loads of data led to significant speed and performance issues.
- The arrival of feeds was frequently delayed, causing data latency and duplication of call data from the source.
- Additionally, there was a lack of analytics and a multidimensional view of both business and operational data, which further complicated data management and insights.
Solutions
- OTSI developed a robust carrier-grade OSS tool suite that collects and processes operational measurements, performance measurements, correlation of PM, fault & configuration management data.
- The tool was named BRTS is designed for multiple radio access networks.
- BRTS is vendor agnostic and can capture 1xRTT, EVDO, LTE, GSM and UMTS RAN parameters and interfaces with other carrier BSS and OSS system tools.
- BRTS uses the latest cutting-edge design/architecture software and big data technologies which replaced several end-of-life non-scalable tools that had become incapable of meeting their original functionality and performance levels.
